Senior World began in 2003 at the inaugural Senior World event that was hosted by the Continuing Education Center on the Dothan Campus of Troy University.

The purpose of Senior World is to foster learning and interaction among members and other professionals over the age of 50. Members enjoy the opportunity to meet new friends while pursuing shared interests. Knowledge is gained through educational opportunities in classes such as computer "stuff", legal issues, health seminars, travel and history. Opportunities are provided to volunteer on the Dothan campus of Troy University and at local cultural and historical events as approved by the Senior World Council.
